The unforeseen benefits of defrosting the freezer
Defrosting our outrageously frosted-up freezer led to the reclamation of a hunk of frozen puff pastry, with which to make a stonking good apple strudel. Take most of said lump of pastry, roll out into a large rectangle and transfer to a baking sheet, cover with one sliced (very large) cooking apple, douse in sugar and marinated sultanas with a sprinkle of cinnamon, add a pastry lattice and brush with egg wash and another dousing of sugar. There are worse things.
